From 2022 onwards, the international Summer School of Archaeology ArcHLABS (Archaeological Heritage in Late Antique and Byzantine Sicily) will be held at Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina, Sicily, with the exclusive participation of postgraduate students of Byzantine Archaeology, after selection. The program is organised by the Centro Interuniversitario di Studi sull'Edilizia abitativa tardoantica nel Mediterraneo of the University of Bologna, in collaboration with the Morgantina Archaeological Park and the Roman Villa del Casale, and with the support of the European Erasmus+ BIP (Blended intensive program). Undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Universities of Athens, Peloponnese, Bologna, Cyprus, Cracow, Cracow, Vroclav, Oviedo, Seville, Stockholm, participate. The students are accompanied by professors from their respective universities who accompany them in the field but give lectures in the afternoons.
During the activities, students not only practice the techniques of stratigraphic excavation, but also apply digital documentation methods, based on digital techniques of archaeological data collection and management. Up to five students and Professor Platon Petridis represent the E.C.P.A. each year.
