The Postgraduate Studies Programme "Byzantine World: History and Archaeology" of the Department of History and Archaeology was established in 2018 (FEK 1729/B/18-5-2018), after the division into three directions of the old, single postgraduate programme of the Department, which had been in operation since the academic year 1989-1990.

The aim of the MSc "Byzantine World: History and Archaeology" is to provide high quality postgraduate education in the fields of Byzantine History and Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Archaeology and Art. The course of study is two years and the successful completion of the studies leads to the award of the Diploma of Postgraduate Studies "Byzantine World: History and Archaeology", in the following specializations:

1. Byzantine History

2. Byzantine Art and Archaeology

Graduates of the programme acquire specialised knowledge and training in the scientific fields of Byzantine History and Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Archaeology and Art, both at a theoretical level and at the level of methodological tools and practical experience. On the basis of these qualifications, they can produce high quality scientific work, continue their studies at doctoral level and pursue a career in academia, research and the Archaeological Service of the Greek State.
